Department of Public Health Dentistry

  The department of Public Health Dentistry deals with providing comprehensive oral health care along with health education for the needy and indigent section of the society so as to improve their oral health. The department also trains undergraduate�s students in investigating the causes/risk factors for various oral diseases, and to use oral epidemiological methods to study oral health conditions and also with regard to the application of preventive aspects.

In terms of patient care, the department has an extensive outreach programme where dental care is provided to the surrounding areas in and around the vicinity of the college. The college has two community centres, one in Poonamallee and another in Pammal, both well equipped to cater to the needs of the patients visiting these centres.

The department also conducts free dental screening and treatment camps and patients requiring further specialized care are referred to the college, and these treatments are offered at subsidized rates. Over the years the department has conducted more than 250 camps benefiting over thousands of patients in various specialities.

The department also has well equipped, fully functional and state of the art mobile dental van. This unit serves the patients in the outreach programs and also ensures rural exposure to graduating students.

The department has also been actively involved in organizing awareness programmes through conducting health education exhibition, street plays and rallies on special days. The department also has a anti-tobacco cessation clinic which works to helping people to quit the habit of using tobacco.
